Inspection principle

To eliminate drug packaging errors, manufacturers of pharmaceutical products must ensure that each vial is packed with the correct dose, of the correct type, and that the vial is properly sealed. Even if this step is completed, the final vial containing the drug must be placed in the correct box along with the relevant drug insert.

To accomplish this task, pharmaceutical manufacturers usually use cartoner equipment. The cartoning machine is used to place the medicine bottles with medicines into the packing box, and put the correct medicine instructions into the packing box. Inspection details

  • The vials are conveyed along the conveyor belt and enter the cartoning machine at a speed of 100/min. The packaging box that is placed flat is automatically opened by the suction mechanism, and the imaging is performed by the assembled vision system. Determine the drug code in the area of ​​interest on the box, and then transmit the information to the PLC through the interface of the camera. In the PLC, the actual photographed drug code is compared with the known correct code, and it is determined whether the detection step is qualified.
  • Using the second camera, the drug code on the drug insert is captured, and this information is also transmitted to the PLC through the interface. After this step of inspection is complete, a mechanical cam-based mechanism is used to pick up the vials from the conveyor belt and place them into the package along with the instructions. After the vial is placed in the box, the box next goes to a second checkpoint to verify that both the vial and the instructions are present. At the second checkpoint, the camera is placed above the opened box. The image data captured by the camera is then transmitted to the host computer, where machine vision software determines whether the vial and instructions are present.
  • The analysis results are transferred from the camera to the PLC and again compared to known pass/fail criteria. The boxes are conveyed along a conveyor belt, during which information such as the box's drug code, instructions, and whether the packaging and instructions are correctly packaged can then be associated with each box. Then, the PLC is used to drive the air cylinder to push out the qualified packaging boxes from the conveyor belt, and at the same time send the unqualified packaging boxes to the recycling station.
